Hi Monica,
This recipe is similar to thumbprint, in that the kisses are pressed into the middle of the cookies. Perhaps it is similar to what you remember.
PEANUT BLOSSOM COOKIES
1 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 unbeaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 package foil covered chocolate kisses, unwrapped (about 48)
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
Cream together butter and peanut butter; gradually add sugars, creaming well. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Blend in dry ingredients gradually, mix thoroughly.
Shape dough into balls using a rounded teaspoon for each. Roll balls in sugar and place on greased baking sheet.
Bake in 375 degree oven for 8 minutes; remove from oven.
Top each cookie with a kiss, pressing down firmly just until the cookie cracks around the edge. Return to the oven and bake 2-5 minutes longer, until golden brown. Remove from the oven. After a couple of minutes, remove cookies carefully from the baking sheet and place on a cake rack to cool.
Makes 4 dozen cookies
