My mother's family came to the USA in the 1800's from Germany to Cincinnati Ohio. This was my moms pepper steak recipe. I was 3 years old when she passed on and I'm 53 so this recipe has been in our family for 100 years at least. I love trying out old recipes so if you have one to share don't be shy every family has a old favorite families recipe. Back in the pass green pepper's were called mango's so I have updated some of the terms that were used back then, didn't want you to use mangos and wonder why it tasted so bad. Lol
PEPPER STEAK
1 round steak, cut into strips
1 medium onion, chopped
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
Sprinkle garlic powder, to taste
1 large can tomato sauce
1 beef bouillon cube
1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup water
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Hot cooked rice or noodles (for serving)
Brown strips of meat and onion in butter.
Sprinkle to taste with garlic. Add tomato sauce and beef bouillon.
Simmer at least 1 hours. Thirty minutes before done add green pepper.
Five minutes before done add remaining ingredients to mixture and simmer until thickened.
Serve over rice or noodles.
Also can be made in crock pot, I put it on high until I get a boil then turn it on low or simmer for an hour or so. Awsome served over white rice.
