Recipe(tried): Re: Got a question?

Misc.

This is in reply to Mrs.Food's sugar cookie question;
These are like old fashioned sugar cookies.. chewy inside and a little
crispy outside.

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 egg yolks
1/8 tsp.ground nutmeg( I like 1 tsp. vanilla instead)
1 tsp. very finely grated lemon peel(omit if using vanilla)
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
About 2 tsp. water, if needed.
coarse or granulated sugar, for coating

Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease a couple of cookie sheets. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter until soft. Then gradually add the
sugar and the brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Add the egg yolks one at a
time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the nutmeg & lemon peel (or
the vanilla, if using).
Sift together the flour, baking powderand salt. Stir the flour mixture
into the creamed mixture to make a smooth dough. If dough seems too dry,add up
to 2 tsp. of water, working it in thoroughly.
Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap or foil, and chill thoroughly, at least 1 hour.

Measure out 1 tsp. to 1 tbsp. of dough and roll into a ball.Roll dough
balls in the sugar. Place the balls on the prepared cookie sheets and flatten
it to a 2" diameter( roughly )
Repeat with the remaining dough. Bake cookies for about 6 minutes or until
centers have puffed and fallen and the edges are light brown.
Remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.

You can also make these cookies 7" or any size you like. If you make them that
big, bake them for about 7-8 minutes.
This came from : Mrs.Witty's Monster Cookies
Enjoy!!!
