Recipe: Rival Smothered Steak (crock pot)

Main Dishes - Beef and Other Meats
RIVAL SMOTHERED STEAK

2 medium onions, sliced, divided use
1 1/2 pounds round steak (1/2 to 3/4-inch thick)
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
4 ounces canned mushroom slices, drained
1/2 cup beef broth
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Kitchen Bouquet (optional)
FOR THE GRAVY:
2 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons water

Place a layer of onions in bottom of a 4 quart crock pot (For crock pots less than 4 quarts, you will need to reduce the ingredients by half).

Cut meat into 5 or 6 pieces. Mix 1/4 cup flour, salt, pepper and paprika together and dredge steak pieces until lightly coated with flour mixture. Place 1/2 of meat pieces on onions; add another layer of onions and drained mushrooms. Add remaining meat and onions.

Mix beef broth, Worcestershire and Kitchen Bouquet and pour over entire meat mixture. Cover crock pot; cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours.

Remove steak from crock pot and keep warm while making gravy.

TO MAKE THE GRAVY:
Combine 2 tablespoons flour with 3 tablespoons water. Stir into drippings in crcok pot and cook on HIGH until thickened.

Pour over steak and serve.

Makes 4 servings
