Recipe: Skillet Yankee Beans with Fried Apples (using canned beans, maple syrup, and catsup)

1 (16 to 20 ounce) can pork and beans in tomato sauce
1 (16 to 20 ounce) can white kidney beans (cannellini), drained
1 (15 1/4 to 20 ounce) can red kidney beans, drained
1/3 cup maple-flavor syrup
1/3 cup catsup
1/4 cup prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire
FOR THE FRIED APPLES:
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 small red apple, cut into wedges
In 4-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, heat first 8 ingredients to boiling. Reduce heat to low; simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes.
TO PREPARE THE FRIED APPLES:
Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet over medium heat, in hot butter or margarine, cook apple wedges until tender, about 5 minutes, turning occasionally.
TO SERVE:
Spoon bean mixture into 1 1/2-quart bowl; top with apple wedges.
Makes 10 servings
