Super Chocolate Chip Cookies (with cinnamon and cloves)

Makes 50 cookies
3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour, after sifting
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cloves
8 oz semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup pecans or walnuts, broken
3 cups quick cooking oats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees with the rack in the center position of the oven. Grease three cookie sheets with vegetable oil.
Either by hand or in an electric mixer on low speed, cream butter, sugars, water, egg and vanilla. Add the flour, salt, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves, chocolate chips, cloves, nuts and oats. Using a soup spoon to form mounds set 1-inch apart on cookie sheets.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes, turning the rack once back to front during the baking. Remove the cookie sheet immediately to cool on a rack.
