Recipe: Sweet and Sour Cherry Sauce (for chicken, pork chops, ham, or meat loaf)

SWEET AND SOUR CHERRY SAUCE

"Serve over fried chicken, pork chops, ham steak, decorative meat loaf."

1 (16 oz) can dark sweet cherries
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup water
4 green onion, sliced diagonally
1/2 green bell pepper, cut in strips
1 (4 oz) can water chestnuts, drained

Drain cherries, reserving syrup. Mix cornstarch and brown sugar in saucepan. Gradually add cherry syrup, vinegar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Stir and cook until thickened and clear. Add cherries, green onion, green pepper and halved water chestnuts. Heat gently.

Makes 3 cups sauce
