Recipe(tried): Sweet pickles from dill or sour

Preserving - Pickles, Relishes
I am not familiar with the method you are speaking of. The recipe I use is to drain the pickles, layer them with sugar and refridgerate. When they are covered with liquid they are ready to use. The pickles are kept in the fridge.
