ISO: Asian Pear Jam - question

Preserving - Jams, Jellies
I tried the Asian Pear Jam, and I admit I am new at canning, the recipe does not say to add Pectin, so I did not. I have a great tasting syrup, but it did not Jell. What did I do wrong?
