ISO: Canning Pears

Misc.
I have a pear tree that produces pears that are yellowish brown, very hard and not terribly sweet. We have tried picking and letting them ripen but they don't ever get softer or sweeter. Last year we left them for the local critters but I was thinking that they may be better canned. Does anyone have a recipe for this type of pear? Thanks for any suggestions
