ISO: caramel cake

OK ive been looking online for a caramel cake recipe and having no luck. Why do all these recipes saying caramel cake when there is not any caramel in the recipes. It can't be a caramel cake without caramel period. vanilla or rum doesn't make it caramel. And therefore it wouldn't taste like anything close to caramel.
