Thank You: tender beef?

Misc.
My husband and I recently travelled to Texas. We ate at a BBQ restaraunt. They served us BBQ beef. It was small chunks of beef (approx 2 inch squares). Seemed to be cooked in a BBQ sauce. It was so tender that we didn't need a knife - it just fell apart with a fork. AND it was delicious!! How can I make beef that tender? Is there a special cut that is better? I welcome any ideas and suggestions. When I cook a roast (even in the slow cooker) it's usually tough. The only steaks that ever turn out for me is the real expensive Filet Mignon. Beef is something I rarely buy because of this.
Thanks!
