Alyce, here are the hints for consistent results with cookies

They are from the same article I have from Select magazine:

Stir to loosen and fluff flour, whtn spoon it gently into a dry-measure cup, and scrape the top level. (Don't let it get packed down--you could easily add 2 to 4 extra Tablespoons per cup.)

Scoop up the white sugar, it doesn't pack

Firmly pack brown sugar into a dry-measure cup and scrape the top level.

Double check oven temperature with a thermometer and adjust the thermostat setting as needed if your cookies bake aster of slower than the recipe indicates they should.
