Deb, read this
Misc.I have the American Heart Association's "Cookbook-5th Edition", and in it it indicates that the Association has printed a cookbook specifically for low-sodium diets, entitled "American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook". It might be worthwhile for you to check into its availability at your local library, or even with the AHA if they have an office near you.
My above-mentioned cookbook includes the following bread recipes, all of which have acceptable fat and cholesterol content. I'm indicating the recipe names and SODIUM content of each below so that you can let me know which recipes you'd like me to post.
Basic Bread (74mg)
Anadama Bread (108mg)
Whole Wheat Bread (189mg)
Yeast Bread (59mg)
Rye Bread (179mg)
Peter's Pumpernickel (Sourdough Style) (154mg)
Oatmeal Bread (137mg)
Cinnamon Bread (83mg)
Herb Cheese Bread (84mg)
Yogurt Dinner Rolls (89mg)
Quick and Easy Refrigerator Rolls (62mg)
Southern-Style Cornbread (185mg)
Raisin Bran Bread (113mg)
I'm glad to hear that your husband seems to be doing better. Undoubtedly, Mayo will be able to give you good guidance on nutritional matters and that should be encouraging to you also.
Let me know what you'd like posted in the way of bread recipes, Deb.
