Gladys - re: heat
Misc. How interesting that you don't have the same humidity mold problems being an island.
Our summer temperatures here day after day, consistantly during the summer are between 92 and 95, and the dewpoint is always 75 or so. (Dewpoints above 60 is when you start "feeling" that uncomfortable humidity-sticky feeling)
During those humid three or four months, it's also our rainy season, and a layer of blackish green mold/algae grows on all your exposed surfaces - like lanai floors and pool surrounds, and rooftops, sidewalks and driveways. Especially when you're not home, driving or walking over these surfaces.
There are thriving little "mom and pop" businesses here for retired people who go around their communities with their pressure-washing equipment and for a price, power wash all that mold off for you, unless you have your own, which many people do.
It would make sense that anything as salty as island sea sand would eat away at metal if used in construction.
I'm just surprised that your heat is a dry heat. It gets pretty oppressive here in the summer (hence, our summers up north in Cape Cod!) But you cannnot beat FL for gorgeous weather from mid-October thru mid-May.
Thanks for your information - love to hear about everyone's homes, and your travelogues are great - very visual - I can really "see" what you describe.
