but in the interest of experimentation, how about trying a small amount of cilantro, lime juice and/or cream? I'm at a disadvantage as I havent' tasted the sauce, but I looked through a couple of cookbooks and found all of these can be used. If you can find fresh New Mexico green chiles to roast, they would taste different from the canned. Congratulations on what looks to be a delicious sauce!
