re: Fried Cornbread - stove-top ovens

what is it about Fathers? Mine loved to crumble his cornbread up in buttermilk too! My Dad was born & raised in OK, his grandparents were from GA.
I do recall seeing pix/reading of using a small oven-type device on top of a wood stove. It looked like a metal box & was inverted over the skillet to retain heat/bake (esp. in summer). I'm not sure if this could be re-created on our modern stoves.
