re: having Grandma help
Misc.A few years back, I had a similar situation with and elderly relative that really wanted to help but was not very able. I put silver polish on all the silverware and per the instructions, let it dry to a haze. Then I let him sit there and polish the silver and chat with my while I prepared the meal. He felt useful, could see that he was indeed helping and we had a lovely afternoon together.
