re: how to pronounce gyro - Ghee row !

I worked a boardwalk stand in Asbury Park over 30 years ago. Before mall food courts and ice cream parlors had them, we called it a "Ghee-row"
Stavros even got mad when people started to say "yee-row". He said it was the lazy Crete dialect. Ji-ros weren't even made yet, except in avaition!
