request: Cactus recipes

I am trying to recreate some of the recipes my mother's family used having to do with the prickly pear cactus (or "nopales" in Spanish). Unfortunately, most of the knowledgeable elders have died, and, of course, they never wrote this stuff down! I am primarily interested in prickly pear, although any kind of cactus usage tips would be gratefully accepted. I found a Mexican cooking newsgroup and it was all in Spanish, which I don't have an abundance of! I had trouble trying to find what I was looking for in the archives, so am posting this message with hope.
