The coffee cake recipe was copied from the Hungry Jack website. It refers to the Original Hungry Jack Mix that requires adding milk, oil, and eggs if you are making pancakes rather than their "complete mix" that requires only adding milk/water to make pancakes.

For the coffee cake, add only the dry pancake mix with the remaining ingredients listed in the recipe. Do not make pancake batter first and then continue with the recipe.

This sounds very similar to the Velvet Crumb Coffee Cake recipe on the Bisquick Box.
