Recipe(tried): Crazy Cake

Misc.

What a fun challenge! Here is a recipe that has been in my family for generations:

Crazy Cake
----------
Preheat oven to 350 F.

2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
Put above ingredients into an UNgreased 9x13-inch pan and mix well with fork. Make a well in the middle and add:
3/4 cup oil
2 Tblsp white vinegar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups cool water
Mix everything well with a fork.
Bake at 350 F. for 40 minutes. Cool completely. Frost with Frosting No. 1, glaze with Frosting No. 2.

Frosting No. 1
--------------
2 1/2 Tblsp flour
1/2 cup milk
Cook until thick. I shake them together before cooking otherwise I get a lumpy sauce. Cool COMPLETELY.
In medium bowl, beat 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter(do not substitute), and 1 tsp vanilla. Add the cooled flour mixture and beat well.

Frosting No. 2
--------------
1 cup sugar
2 Tblsp light karo syrup
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
2 Tblsp cocoa

Put all in a heavy medium saucepan and bring to a good bubbling boil. Let boil a few seconds. Boil to a slow count of 70 (great-grandma's instructions). Cool to spreading consistency and layer over frosting No. 1. It should be quite cool or Frosting No. 1 will melt all over. If it gets too thick add a little milk.
