Recipe: 24 Hour Cabbage Slaw (make ahead, with sweet and sour dressing)

24 HOUR CABBAGE SLAW

1 large head cabbage, finely shredded
1 onion, finely shredded
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar, divided use
1 cup vinegar
1 cup oil
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt

In a bowl, put one layer cabbage and a layer of onion alternating until all is used. Cover with 1 cup sugar. Set aside.

Bring to a rolling boil vinegar, oil, celery seed, dry mustard, salt and remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Pour rapidly boiling mixture over cabbage very slowly.

Refrigerate for 24 hours.

When ready to serve, stir well. This keeps well and gets better each day.
