Recipe: Angel strudel for Jackie/MA
Misc. Jackie,
It looks like an interesting recipe to me also. Unfortunately, the only version I have access to is not very specific regarding assembly of the ingredients. Nancy(the OP) makes mention of a dough similar to clothespin cookies; the dough in the strudel recipe I have is similar to that in content, but not in procedure. So-oo~~I'll give you both doughs and the filling as I have it available to me.
First, the clothespin cookie dough:
3 c. flour
2 tbsp. sugar
2 c. Crisco
2 egg yolks
1 c. water
Mix all ingredients, except 1 cup of Crisco. Chill for 1 hour. Roll out on floured surface. Spread 1/3 cup of Crisco over dough, fold and return to bowl; chill another hour. Repeat twice; chill overnight before rolling out.
Now, the entire angel strudel recipe:
2 c. flour
2 sticks Oleo
1/2 c. water
3 egg yolks
2 tbsp. vinegar
Mix flour and oleo as for pie dough. Mix egg yolks, vinegar and water; add dry ingredients. Makes 5 rolls. Put in refrigerator overnight or at least 6 hours. Then roll out thin.
FILLING:
1 lb. nuts, ground
1 jar Maraschino cherries, cut-up, juice reserved
1 box angel food cake mix
1/2 c. sugar, added to cherry juice
Spread on dough, roll and bake 25 minutes at 325 degrees.
So, Jackie, that's all I know. I wish Nancy would answer back so I know if she got the message. It really makes me feel bad that she so desperately needs the recipe and can get no help with it.
