Recipe(tried): Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookies
Misc.Bubba, This is a standard chocolate chip cookie recipe, and about the first thing I learned to do in the kitchen. I don't know what the magic in this recipe is, but these cookies are my claim to fame among family and friends. Some people I have shared the recipe with get equally good results, some don't. I think it has something to do with the amount of love put into it!
Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 3 dozen
1/3 cup Land O' Lakes margarine
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup (6 oz) chocolate chips
Cream together margarine, shortening, and sugars. Stir in egg and vanilla.
Stir the dry ingredients together, add to sugar mixture, stir in gently. Fold in chocolate chips. Chill for a couple hours, if you have the time. Otherwise, drop by (roughly) tablespoons on baking sheet. Roll gently between your palms if you like perfectly round cookies; don't bother if you don't care about uniform shape.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
These freeze well, and so does the unbaked dough. They don't keep very well in the cookie jar, but they don't usually have to! I never bother with a single recipe. I always double it.
