BIG BRAZEN BROWNIES
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x9-inch pan
Melt chocolate and butter in top of double boiler over simmering hot water. Transfer chocolate to large bowl.
In separate bowl, stir sugar gradually into beaten eggs. Add to chocolate mixture; set aside.
Sift flour with baking powder and salt and blend into chocolate mixture. Add pecans and vanilla and pour into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven about 30 minutes. Cut into squares and cool on wire rack.
Makes 9 large or 16 medium-size brownies
