Recipe: Butter Cookies

BUTTER COOKIES

1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups confectioner's sugar (plus more for topping)
1 egg or 2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups white flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt (optional)

Cream butter or margarine; add sugar gradually. Cream till fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients and blend. Chill 1 hour.

WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Use dough for cut out cookies or roll into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees F. Dip in confectioner's sugar while warm.
