Recipe: Crispy Cheese Squares (appetizers)
Appetizers and SnacksCRISPY CHEESE SQUARES
1 cup soft butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups (4-5oz) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Dash cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups crisp rice cereal
In a bowl, cream butter with cheese. Blend in flour and cayenne pepper. Mix in cereal. Press into a buttered 8 or 9 inch cake pan.
Bake at 375 for 15 to 20 mminutes until crisp. Cool. Cut into bars.
Good served with hot soup, tossed salad, a selection of hors d'oeuvres or on a tray of cheeses.
TIP
These appetizers may be served warm or cold. They may also be prepared several days in advance, covered and stored in the refrigerator.
