Recipe: Date Nut Bread (Loaf) (Make A Treat With Wheat)

Breads - Muffins, Quick Breads
DATE NUT BREAD (LOAF)

4 1/2 cups water
4 1/2 cups cut dates
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
3 tablespoons margarine (or vegetable oil)
6 3/4 cups sifted flour
3 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups chopped nuts

Boil 4 1/2 cups water and dates together in a saucepan. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 3 loaf pans.

Cream together brown sugar, egg, and margarine. Add the cooled date mixture.

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the sugar mixture and beat. stir in chopped nuts. Divide batter between the prepared loaf pans and let stand 20 minutes.

Bake at 350 degrees F 60 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Makes 3 Loaves
