Refrigerator Date Pinwheels

1 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Add flour, soda and salt. Mix well. Roll dough 1/4-inch thick and spread with filling.
Filling:
1 pound dates, chopped fine
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup sugar
Combine and cook this for 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cool this completely before you spread it over the dough. Roll up like a jelly roll and wrap in wax paper. Chill overnight. Cut into 1/8 inch slices and bake on a greased cookie sheet in a 375 degree oven for 12 minutes or until done. Carefully remove to rack and cool.
