Recipe(tried): Dough ornaments tips for baking, drying, painting, and storing

Holidays, Celebrations
I have made these for years and have found if I bake them on parchment in a slow oven (250 degrees) at least overnight, or sometimes 24 hours, the ornaments do not curl or puff. Sometimes it takes longer to dry them completely out. Also, I use jelly roll pans (with small sides)and can "criss-cross" the pans on top of each other, so I can fit lots of pans in the oven. I have 8 pans, and can easily dry at least 100 or more ornaments, depending on their size. If you have to use your oven for cooking actual food, then remove the ornament pans, cook your meal and put the pans back in the oven when you've finished with your meal. If the humidity is high, drying time will increase. If you make lots at a time, store them (after cooling well) for months in tightly covered plastic containers...making sure that there is no moisture at all left in them. I can then paint them at my leisure. I use model car paints in the little jars because the colors are so vibrant. Before sealing them, put them back on parchment and dry a couple of hours in the oven on 200 degrees, just to make sure there is no moisture in them before you seal them. I have ornaments I made 25 years ago, and they look just as wonderful now as they did then. Hope this helps...
