The Ultimate Roasted Turkey:
*this needs to be done in what is called the Ultimate Roaster, basically an over grown dutch oven with a large lid and a cone in the middle to stick the turkey on, it's made by a company called Camp Chef. It really made the best turkey I've ever tasted. It was juicy and had a delicious taste.
You need:
One 15-20 lbs. thawed turkey (remove giblets).
Your choice of marinade (I recommend mesquite).
A burner, can be done on the stove if desired, but the Roaster comes with a burner.
Oven mitts.
Remove neck from the turkey and leave a nice hole for the heat to go through.
Completely thaw the turkey.
Mix the marinade with a little water. Inject the turkey with the marinade. (If you don't have a needle to inject the turkey with you can rub the seasoning directly onto the bird).
Spray the Ultimate Roaster with non-stick spray all around the inside of the Dutch oven and on the cone. Place the cavity of the turkey over the cone with the neck up. Insert the thermometer into the breast of the turkey (this also comes with the roaster), avoid hitting the bone. Thermometer should be visible outside the roaster.
Cook on medium. It cooks a five minutes a pound. The thermometer should read 170 . About 30 minutes into cooking add a cup of liquid, water is generally used, but even a can of lemonade or soda will give the turkey a delicious and juicy taste.
