Recipe: Far-East Barbecue Sauce for Hamburgers (using molasses, 1960's)

1/2 cup syrup from canned peaches
1/2 cup molasses
1/16 cup vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp soy sauce
2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water to smooth paste
Combine syrup, molasses and vinegar in a saucepan. Stir in salt, ginger and soy sauce. Stir cornstarch paste into molasses mixture. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
Makes 1 1/2 cups sauce, enough for about 18 hamburgers
