Desserts - Cakes
GEORGE WASHINGTON CAKE

3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cups cake flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg whites, beaten until stiff

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add sifted dry ingredients, alternately with sour milk and vanilla. Fold in egg whites.

Bake in three (8-inch) layer cake pans, lined with waxed paper, in 350 degree F oven for 30 minutes.

Hi Estell,

Here's one recipe that I found. I can be baked in a greased 13x9-inch baking pan with time adjustments. If there is too much batter, fill the pan 1/2-2/3 full and bake the remainder in a small baking pan or muffin cups.

Happy Baking!
