Recipe(tried): Grandma's Ice Box Cookies

My grandmother (born in 1879) made these cookies (Grandma's Refrigerator Cookies), or ones very like it, only she called them "Ice Box Cookies." She used:

1 1/2 cups shortening which she called "Spry" (I use half butter)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white granulated sugar
3 beaten eggs
1 tsp vanilla
4 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup chopped walnuts

I've made this recipe every year for 30 or more years and it is always a big hit with my family.
