Recipe: Holland Spice Cookies

Holland Spice Cookies

1 cup butter or regular margarine
1 cup lard
2 cups brown sugar -- firmly packed
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
4 1/2 cups flour -- sifted
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup walnuts -- chopped

Cream together butter, lard, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in sour cream.

Sift together flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, nutmeg, and cloves. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mixing well with a spoon. Stir in walnuts.

Cover and chill 1 hour in refrigerator. Shape dough into 4 (6-inch) rolls. Chill in refrigerator overnight. Cut rolls into 1/4-inch slices. Place 2-inches apart on greased baking sheets.

Bake in 350 oven 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheets; cool on racks.
