Recipe: Grape-Nuts Stuffed Onions (General Foods, 1943)

Main Dishes - Pork, Ham
GRAPE-NUTS STUFFED ONIONS

6 large onions
1/2 cup (1/4 pound) pork sausage meat
1/2 cup Grape-Nuts
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon melted fat
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 slices bacon (optional)

Peel onions; cook 15 minutes in large amount of boiling salted water. Drain and cool.

Remove centers from stem end, making little cups. Chop centers and combine with sausage and remaining ingredients. Fill onions with mixture and place in greased baking dish. Each may be topped with 1/3 slice bacon.

Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees F) 45 minutes, or until tender.

Makes 6 servings
