Recipe: Grateau (French Meat Pie)

Main Dishes - Assorted
GRATEAU (FRENCH MEAT PIE)

1 (3 to 4 lb) pork butt, ground fine - (untrimmed of fat)
5 shakes ground cinnamon
5 shakes ground clove
4 shakes allspice
salt and pepper to taste
3 medium to large onions
2 to 3 cups water

Mix all ingredients in large stockpot and simmer for approx 4-6 hours

When the meat is cooked you may prepare it two different ways:

- Place the pure meat mixture into a small bowl or cup and put into refrigerator overnight. This mixture may be used to cover toast, used as a stuffing for your bird, used in a pie mixed with other vegetables such as bits of potatoes, carrots and baked pie crust.

- Mix meat mixture 1/2 and 1/2 with mashed potatoes and use in pie or stuffing mix.
