Recipe: Hard Candy Windows for Gingerbread House

Hard Candy Windows for Gingerbread House

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup sugar
Few drops of food coloring

Put baked gingerbread house pieces with windows cut out on greased alluminum foil. Combine butter, corn syrup and sugar in 1 quart saucepan. Heat to boiling over medium high heat, stirring occasionally. Have a wet pastry brush handy to run around the top of the pan occaisionally when sugar gets collected there.

Reduce heat to medium. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, to 270 degrees on candy thermometer (or until a few drops of syrup dropped into very cold water separate into threads which are hard but not brittle).

Stir in food color. Pour into window holes and let cool.
