Recipe: Homemade Butterscotch Candy (Pennsylvania Dutch Cookbook, 1930's)

2 cups sugar
1/4 cup butter
4 tbsp water
1 tbsp vinegar
Combine all the ingredients and cook until a little tried in cold water forms a brittle or hard ball.
Pour into a buttered pan. When cool, cut in squares.
