Recipe: Honey Whole Wheat Bread (1970's Pillsbury recipe)

HONEY WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
(1970's Pillsbury recipe)

2 pkg yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup shortening
1 tbsp salt
1 3/4 water
3 cups whole wheat flour
3 to 4 cups white flour

Dissolve yeast in warm water.

Stir in honey, shortening, salt, 1 3/4 water and whole wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in 3 to 4 cups white flour

Turn onto floured board, knead till smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled (about one hour).

Punch down; divide in half. Shape into 2 loaves. Place into 2 (9x5x3-inch) pans.
Brush with butter; sprinkle with flour or oats. Let rise till doubled, about 1 hour.

Bake at 375 degrees F for about 40-45 minutes.
