Recipe(tried): KYJoe's Homemade Grape Wine
BeveragesThis is a funny story about my first attempt to make "GRAPE WINE" Remember the I LOVE LUCY SHOW.STOMPING THE GRAPES?
KYJOES HOME MADE GRAPE WINE
Get a five gallon plastic deep container with a lid.
Obtain a large bucket of red grapes. The gray matter on grapes is yeast .Don't wash it off. Rinse and take large vines off grapes. Place clusters of grapes (stems and all) in plastic container. I got my little daughters to wash their feet and do the LUCY STOMP in the container smashing the grapes.
I added a 2 pound bag of sugar and covered. Let it rest 1 week and start fermenting. The liquid will separate from the stems and float to the top. I added 1 gallon of bottled water. Skim off the top floaters and cover back up. After two weeks the grapes are about ready to separate from the liquid.
***(It is time to transfer the liquid from the rectangular container to the five gallon jug. Siphon the liquid into the 5 gal jug and leave about 6 inches of head space.)
Fill a quart jar full of water and place one end down into water. In the plastic lid of the five gallon wine container drill a 1/4 inch hole and replace on the 5 gallon jug. Insert tube; place the other end of the tube into the bottle. As the fermentation takes place it will go " blurp! blurp! blurp! to release gas into the jar of water. Your house will fill with the aroma of a winery. Let the separation take place for about two weeks. The liquid will layer in the five gallon jug. Remove the two or three inch layer of matter that floats to the top of the 5 gal. jug with a suction device.
Then you are ready for the final phase of bottling the wine. Find some old wine bottles and buy new corks.
Place the plastic hose in the middle layer of liquid in the five gallon jug and siphon into bottles leaving about three inches headspace in the glass wine bottle. This will make about three gallons of wine. Let it age 1 month and you will see the tannins in the bottom.
This stuff is awesome. I took a bottle across the street to a neighbor and she had a wine/ cheese party with her elderly friends and called and offered me a considerable sum of money for another bottle.
You can not sell this but you can make up to 50 gallons for your own use. Check with you state law concerning winemaking. It makes me laugh when I recall the whole event.
