Recipe: Laura-Is it Roggebrood?

Misc.

Laura, and everyone else, I have one that you don't need to make in a machine...just stir it together, and it's very good. It uses no fat, no sugar, no eggs, and no milk. There are many variations of this bread, but this is the way WE like it.

Roggebrood:
2 1/4 c. sunny boy cereal
1 c. all purpose or unbleached flour
1 c. 100% whole wheat flour
1 c. Quaker natural wheat bran
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. golden syrup (I use Roger's Golden)
1 tbsp. blackstrap, or cooking molasses
1 tsp. salt
3 c. water (approx., no less)

Stir everything together, adding the water last. Pour into a 9"x5" lightly greased loaf pan and bake in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees F. for about an hour or until it tests done. Cool a bit, and then remove, running a knife around all sides of the pan, and slowly and gently urging it out. Don't worry if it looks a bit cracked on top...and also, it doesn't rise much, so it DOES fit in one 9x5 loaf tin. (I like the long loaf tin...don't see them often, anymore. It is x32.4 x10.8 x6.3 cm. OR, you can also use 2 18.7x9.2x5.7 cm loaf tins.

We like this with sliced Dutch Spiced Cheese, but you can also enjoy it with just butter, or spread with syrup or jam, or even meat. It is delicious and filling and high in necessary fibre. Try it. It's very easy!
