PECAN COOKIES
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup finely chopped pecans
Candied cherries
Sift together first 3 ingredients; set aside.
Mix butter and next 3 ingredients until light and fluffy. Blend in flour mixture. Form into balls (1 inch). Roll in pecan and cinnamon mix.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten balls with bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar. Top with cherries.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
Dear Erin,
The original source of this recipe wasn't provided but it looks similar to the one you described. You could experiment with mixing the pecans into the batter and dropping them instead. I would add a small amount of milk, if needed, to get the consistency for dropping. I looked through all of my old Arm and Hammer Cookbooks going back to the '30's and couldn't find the recipe in any of them.
