Recipe: Not thumbprint but something like it...

Misc.

These are on my list of baking this week. They were 1954 pillsbury bake off winner. I'm going to make them but coat them in egg white and them ground nuts before filling and baking. I'll post the results after I try them. I do have a thumbprints recipe that I'll look for if one doesn't get posted.

Spliit Seconds
beat until light and fluffy:
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2/3 cup sugar
add and blend well:
2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
stir in:
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
divide dough into 4 equal parts. On lightly floured surface roll each part into 12x3/4" roll. place on ungreased cookie sheets. Using handle of wooden spoon or fingers, make a depression about 1/2" wide and 1/4" deep lenghtwise down the center of each roll. Fill each roll with 2 Tbs. Jelly
1/2 of you favorite jelly or preserves
oven 350 degrees, bake 15 - 20 min (I'm guessing more like 10 min. so keep an eye on it.) until light golden brown. Cool slightly, cut into diagonal strips. cool completely. makes 4 dozen.
