Recipe(tried): Just made these Thumbprints

Misc.

These are very good, and I got the recipe from the Betty Crocker website.

Thumbprint Cookies

1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. stick margarine or butter, softened. (do not use veg. oil spreads)
1/2 ts. vanilla
1 egg yolk
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 ts. salt

Oven at 350. Mix brown sugar, shortening, margarine or butter, vanilla, and egg yolk. Stir in flour and salt until dough holds together. Shape dough into 1" balls. Place about 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press thumb deeply into center of each. Bake about 10 min or until light brown. Immediately remore from cookie sheet. Fill thumbprints with jelly.

The recipe actually called for egg white, and chopped nuts. I don't like that either, so just eliminated that step. I also used the mega chocolate chips on each cookie as soon as they came out of the oven. Then put them back in for less than a minute to start softening. You can make some this way, and some with jelly.

Another thing I did recently was to use the recipe for the snowball cookies and instead of leaving them in balls, I did the thumbprint routine and filled them with either jelly or a mega chip. I've also used icing in the center. Hope this gives you some ideas of you own. Happy baking!
