Recipe(tried): Not Your Run of the Mill Green Bean Casserole - Another Hit from 2008
Side Dishes - VegetablesI wanted to make sure it was OK with my friend who gave me this recipe before posting it...
A definite HIT, not your run of the mill green beans! I quadrupled this recipe for Christmas dinner with good results.
GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
dash pepper
1/2 tsp sugar, you can use Splenda with good results
1/2 tsp grated onion
1/2 cup milk ( I used skim)
1/2 cup sour cream (I used lite)
2 cans (1 lb each) green beans, drained
4 oz shredded white cheese (I used pepper jack, but any white cheese would work)
FOR THE TOPPING:
1/3 cup corn flakes, crushed
1 Tbsp butter
(or you can use the Durkee onion rings in the can)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Cook onion lightly in butter, blend in flour, salt pepper and sugar. Add milk, cook until bubbly, remove from heat and stir in sour cream and then add green beans.
Spread 1/3 green bean mixture into casserole dish, sprinkle with 1/2 cheese, repeat layers ending with green beans mixture.
Combine corn flakes with 1 Tbsp butter, mix well and top casserole.
Bake for 20 minutes in 400 degree F oven.
