Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, BarsONE-BOWL BROWNIES
"These brownies are as easy to prepare as any mix. And, if you use a microwave oven, you need just one bowl."
4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) margarine
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)
Heat chocolate and margarine in a large microwavable bowl at high power for 2 minutes or until margarine has melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. (If you do not have a microwave oven, place chocolate and margarine in 3-quart saucepan over very low heat on top of range. Stir constantly until just melted.)
Stir sugar into melted chocolate until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla; stir until completely mixed. Stir in flour until well blended. Stir in nuts, if using. Spread in greased 13-by-9-inch metal baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out almost clean. Do not overbake. Cool in pan, then cut into squares.
Makes 24 brownies
VARIATIONS:
FOR CAKELIKE BROWNIES:
Stir in 1/2 cup milk with the eggs and vanilla. Increase flour to 1 1/2 cups.
FOR FUDGY BROWNIES:
Use 4 eggs. Bake 30 to 35 minutes.
FOR EXTRA-THICK BROWNIES:
Bake in 9-inch square metal pan at 325 degrees F for 50 minutes.
