Recipe: Peanut-Butterscotch Squares (using corn flakes, 1960's)

PEANUT-BUTTERSCOTCH SQUARES

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2/3 cup white granulated sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1 (6 ounce) package butterscotch chips
1/2 cup chunk-style peanut butter
2 cups corn flakes

Cream butter or margarine and brown sugar. Stir in flour. (Mixture will be crumbly.) Press into ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F) 15 minutes.

In saucepan, combine granulated sugar and corn syrup; heat to boiling. Remove from heat. Add butterscotch pieces and peanut butter; stir till butterscotch is melted.

Stir in corn flakes. Spread over baked layer. Cool; cut in squares.
