Saucepan Brownies
alt.cooking-chien/Mendi/2003
Makes 24
1 stick plus 3 Tbs. butter
2 ounces semisweet chocolate
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup tightly packed light brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1-1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
4 eggs
1/2 cup chopped nuts of choice (optional--I never use)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan.
In a heavy, medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter and chocolates over very low heat, stirring occasionally.
When all are melted, remove from heat and stir in sugars and vanilla. Add flour, salt, and baking powder, and mix well. Then add the eggs, stirring briefly after each addition. Stir in nuts, if desired.
Bake brownies for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted at the center comes out dry. Cool, then cut into squares.
This brownie needs no frosting.
